Demand for tickets for West Ham’s first season at the Olympic Stadium has prompted the club to consider increasing the capacity to 60,000.

It’s understood that West Ham United will attempt to increase the size of the Olympic Stadium to 60,000 seats, due to the demand for tickets.

The move to Stratford at the start of next season will end the Hammers 112 years stay at Upton Park.

The former London 2012 Olympic venue will have a capacity of 54,000 when it opens on the first day of the 2016/17 season.

However, because of high demand for season tickets, the board confirmed they are attempting to add a further 6,000 seats.

“Following extraordinary demand for tickets at the Hammers’ new world-class home, West Ham are now doing everything in their power to expand the capacity to 60,000,” read a statement, in which the board backed the £30 cap on away ticket prices.

“Should that hard work pay off, there will be an additional 5,000 Band 5 seats and thus a total of 8,000 Season Tickets available for £289 a season.”

The Olympic Stadium held 80,000 people and a running track during the Games, but has been significantly modified in the four years since.
