Manchester City are once again opening their doors to host a second hackathon, following the success of their inaugural hackathon in 2016, which will take place at the Etihad Stadium in February.

The first hack day, delivered with support from local digital agency Play, focused on extracting performance-enhancing insights from match data.

This time digital fan engagement will take centre stage as successful applicants are challenged to come up with innovative ways to reinforce a sense of community among City fans spread out across the world.

The event will take place from the 10-12 February at the Etihad Stadium and will once again be supported by the Play team.

The Club are inviting programmers, designers, researchers, strategists, marketers, social media specialists, students and innovators to apply for a place.

There are two tracks for successful applicants: the Cityzen Hack, which is designed for experienced individuals from those fields, and the Academy, for those new to hackathons who are looking to hone their analytical, design and marketing skills.

New for this round of #HackManCity, the event will be run in collaboration with Google, Google will be supporting the event with experienced judges and facilitators, providing participants with the opportunity to benefit from an even wider breadth of expertise.

Commenting on the Club’s second hackathon, Diego Gigliani, SVP for Media and Innovation at City Football Group, said: “From our first hackathon to our co-created website, among many other activities, we’ve witnessed first-hand that great ideas can come from anywhere.

“By engaging in open conversation with a diverse and passionate community, we’ve been able to uncover new paths to explore together.

“We hope to replicate this again during our second hackathon – by engaging with our community and coming up with creative ways to employ new technologies or digital means that create a sense of belonging among our global fan base.”

Paul Robinson, one of the winners of Manchester City’s first hackathon said: “The Manchester City hackathon last summer was remarkable. I’ve attended many hack days and consider this to be one of the best I’ve been to.

“Coupled with an incredibly interesting brief and access to resources that are near impossible to get access to in any other context, I’ll remember the weekend for a long time to come.

“The talent of others competing was exceptional and the quality of the ideas produced over the two days were top-notch.”

Anyone over the age of 18 who can demonstrate their curiosity, technical skills and passion for football, marketing and/or digital, is invited to register to attend.

Places to take part in this event are limited and all applications will be subject to a selection process.

The deadline for applications is 10am on Monday 23rd January 2017. To fill out an application, visit www.hackmancity.com.
