World Football Summit Europe 2024 Kicks Off In Sevilla
The eighth edition of World Football Summit (WFS) Europe kicked off in Sevilla yesterday (18th Sept) marking the beginning of two days of groundbreaking discussions, networking and innovation in the global football industry.
Day One Highlights
The opening day saw an impressive lineup of speakers, including:
Javier Tebas, President of LALIGA
Maheta Molango from the Professional Footballers Association
Óscar Mayo from Atlético de Madrid
Paul Cuttil from Liverpool FC
Will Hutton from the Premier League
They shared invaluable insights across 11 diverse content tracks, covering crucial topics such as football technology, investment strategies, sustainability initiatives, women’s football development and emerging revenue streams in the digital age.
It also addressed some of its challenges including the impact of an overloaded calendar on player performance or the fight against piracy.
Javier Tebas shared his thoughts on the stage: “Piracy is the biggest challenge the football industry faces today.”
Sustainability and Inclusivity
Sustainability and inclusivity have taken a prominent role in the event’s agenda. Panels covering the need to drive opportunities for female leaders in football, inclusion, or embracing sustainability as a key priority for the industry were proof of this.
Furthermore, WFS has partnered with Bosquia to plant a forest in the region, offsetting the event’s carbon footprint. The summit is also making strides in inclusivity, with the Female Leaders in Football gathering gaining significant traction and the event aiming for 30% women representation among speakers and attendees across both days.
Looking Ahead
As the final edition of WFS Europe in Sevilla, the event is set to leave a lasting legacy. Marian Otamendi, CEO of World Football Summit, commented on the day’s success: “The energy and collaboration we’ve witnessed today are truly inspiring. As we conclude our journey in Sevilla, we’re confident that the connections made and ideas exchanged here will continue to shape the future of football globally.
“This event has not only highlighted Sevilla and Andalucía as hubs for sports innovation but has also opened up unprecedented opportunities for the entire football ecosystem.”
