Newcastle United To Introduce ‘Sensory Backpacks'

Newcastle United is introducing brand new ‘sensory backpacks’ at St. James’ Park this Saturday to assist supporters with the challenges presented by autism.

Sponsored by teaching agency, First Class Supply, the packs are specifically designed to make matchday a more comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Available free-of-charge to supporters young and old, sensory backpacks contain a stress reliever, ear defenders, activity pack and communication cards – all of which help users to relax and overcome stressful or intense situations.

Lucy Oliver, head of inclusion at Newcastle United, said: “We are continuing to build on our long-term efforts to make St. James’ Park and all of our sites more accessible, more diverse and more inclusive.

“We are delighted to have worked with First Class Supply on this project and we believe our partnership will make a real difference to the matchday experience of supporters who use them.”

Lesley Robinson, director at First Class Supply, commented: “First Class Supply has a longstanding partnership with Newcastle United and when we were approached by the club for help with the provision of the backpacks, we jumped at the chance to help.

“The packs are brilliant and will enhance matchday for fans with sensory needs.

“We are proud and delighted to be associated with and to support the club with this amazing project.”
